The Sunday farmers market that fills the gazebo lawn on Main Street in Babylon Village has found a way to keep going after the cold sets in. For the fall and winter, the Babylon Village Farmers Market is moving indoors to Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, with its first indoor market on Sunday, November 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From the gazebo to the brewery

In season, the market sets up on Sunday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Babylon gazebo, 244 West Main Street. It is run by G&G Long Island Farmers Market.

The winter location is the brewery's home at 25 Drexel Drive in Bay Shore, a short drive east on Montauk Highway or Sunrise Highway. The market announced the move on its own Instagram account this week, with a poster headed by both logos: the G&G tractor and the Great South Bay Brewery mark. Great South Bay Brewery shared the news on its own account as well.

What will be on the tables

The market says the indoor version will carry fresh baked goods, specialty foods and handcrafted items, the same kind of finds its regulars shop for outside.

Moving under a roof also changes the hours. Instead of the 8 a.m. start the outdoor market keeps, the brewery market runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A winter home for an outdoor market

An outdoor market on a village lawn has a natural end date once the weather turns, and an indoor host is how a market keeps its vendors and customers together through the winter. The Riverhead Farmers Market made a similar move this fall, into the Naugles Barn at Hallockville. For Babylon's market, the brewery gives its vendors a place to keep selling through the months when the gazebo lawn on Main Street is not an option.

If you go

The first indoor market is Sunday, November 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Great South Bay Brewery, 25 Drexel Drive, Bay Shore. The market has not yet posted its full winter calendar; later dates will appear on the Babylon Village Farmers Market Instagram, which is also where the vendor list is posted.
