Pina Prainito came to nutrition from twenty-five years in education, and it shows in how she works: the job, as she practices it, is largely teaching people to read their own biology.
She holds degrees from Hofstra University and SUNY Stony Brook and is a board-certified functional nutritional counselor. Her specialty is nutrigenomics, the study of how the nutrients someone takes in influence which genes actually switch on. It is one of the more genuinely interesting corners of the field, and it reframes a familiar question, from what a diet contains to what a diet is instructing the body to do.
