Main Street in Northport Village turns into a costume party on Wednesday night. Witches and Warlocks Night on Main runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on October 21, with shops, restaurants and bars throughout the village offering seasonal deals and specials for an evening of shopping and dining in costume.

The event is hosted by Signature Premier Properties with the businesses of Northport Village, and it appears on the Northport Chamber of Commerce calendar. Dressing as a witch or warlock is encouraged, though not required to take part.

How the night works

Participants can pick up a free shopping bag at the Signature Premier Properties office at 180 Main Street between 5 and 7 p.m. Each bag holds the list of participating merchants and restaurants for the night, along with discounts, promotions and giveaways that are only good during the event.

Purchases do double duty: shoppers receive raffle tickets when they buy at participating shops and restaurants, and the raffle drawing takes place the following day. The format sends the crowd up and down Main Street, from the harborfront end near the village dock to the shops up the hill, with stops wherever a storefront has a deal in the bag.

A village built for an evening on foot

Northport Village's Main Street runs downhill to the harbor and the village dock, lined with independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The event's format, a bag of offers that only works store by store, is built for walking the full street on an October evening.

Wednesday's costume night lands in a busy stretch of the village's fall calendar. The chamber's October listings also include a Trunk or Treat at Union United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 25, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., and a Halloween party at Moksha Cafe on October 31 from 12 to 3 p.m.
