The Vagina Monologues is coming to the North Fork. Hope and Resilience Long Island, a nonprofit that serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, is staging the play on Saturday, October 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalists of Southold Meeting House at 51900 Main Road, with musician Rebel Elle as the evening's guest performer.

The play, and the cause it funds

Eve Ensler's episodic play, first staged in New York in the 1990s, is built from monologues drawn from interviews with women, and productions of it have been used for decades as fundraisers for organizations that work against violence toward women. That is exactly the shape of Saturday's staging: every dollar raised goes to Hope and Resilience Long Island's work.

The organization lists four core services on its event page: legal advocacy and representation for survivors, trauma counseling, emergency rent and hotel assistance for people fleeing abusive homes, and support services matched to each survivor's situation. The group runs its ticketing through Zeffy, a platform it says passes 100 percent of each purchase to the mission.

Tickets from $20, and nobody turned away

Advance tickets are $20 through Friday, October 23 at 10 p.m., and general admission is $25. There is a pay-what-you-are-able tier for seniors, students and anyone of limited means, and the organizers state plainly that no one will be turned away. A fourth option lets a buyer put $20 toward a survivor's seat, covering the ticket for someone the organization serves.

Attendees can also add a donation at checkout, which is eligible for a tax receipt.

A Main Road landmark as the venue

The Unitarian Universalist Meeting House sits on Main Road in the heart of Southold hamlet, and its hall regularly hosts community concerts and talks. For one Saturday night in late October, it becomes a theater, with a show that mixes comic and serious material and carries a clear purpose for the East End community around it.
