Theatre Three will raise the curtain on its 42nd annual production of A Christmas Carol on Saturday, November 7, and run it through December 27 at 412 Main Street in Port Jefferson. Tickets are on sale now, and every performance in November is priced at $30.

Forty-two years of Scrooge

The production, adapted by Jeffrey Sanzel, has been staged at the Main Street playhouse every holiday season for more than four decades, long enough that the theater bills it as Long Island's own holiday tradition. The show follows Ebenezer Scrooge through the familiar night of visits from the spirits of Christmas past, present and future, and runs about two hours with a 15-minute intermission.

Evening performances start at 7 p.m., a deliberately early curtain that lets families with school-age children see the show and still get home at a reasonable hour. Wednesday matinees run through the engagement at $30 a seat. Children under 5 are not admitted.

Ticket prices

Outside the November flat price, tickets are $45 for adults, $36 for seniors 65 and over and students 13 and up, and $30 for children 5 to 12. Groups of 10 or more can arrange discounted seats through the theater's group sales office. The box office is at 631-928-9100, open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and two hours before curtain on Sundays.

The rest of the holiday season on Main Street

A Christmas Carol anchors a full holiday slate at the theater. The children's stage gets its own seasonal show, Barnaby Saves Christmas, from November 21 through December 27, timed so a family can make a day of the village in December. On November 19 the mainstage hosts The New York Bee Gees for a one-night concert.

Theatre Three operates in the historic playhouse at 412 Main Street with public funding from Suffolk County and the New York State Council on the Arts. Tickets and the full performance calendar are at theatrethree.com.
