Sag Harbor's three cultural anchors are closing out October together. On Friday, October 30, The Church, Bay Street Theater and Sag Harbor Cinema host the third annual Spooky-Palooza, a Halloween costume dance party at The Church, 48 Madison Street, from 6 to 9 p.m. Proceeds are split among all three organizations.

A dance floor inside a former church

The party runs on music from DJ Henry Eau, with complimentary food tables and a cash bar. Costumes are the point of the evening: a costume contest, new to the event this year, awards a grand prize. Tickets and details are at thechurchsagharbor.org.

The setting is itself part of the draw. The Church is a nonprofit arts center built inside a former Methodist church on Madison Street, co-founded by the artist April Gornik with a mission of fostering creativity on the East End and preserving Sag Harbor's history as a village of makers. It runs exhibitions, artist residencies and public programs year round.

Three organizations, one weekend

Spooky-Palooza began three years ago as a joint fundraiser among the village's three arts institutions, which sit within a few blocks of one another: The Church on Madison Street, Bay Street Theater on Long Wharf and Sag Harbor Cinema on Main Street. Rather than staging three competing Halloween benefits, the organizations throw one party and share what it raises.

The collaboration spills into the rest of the weekend. On Saturday, October 31, Bay Street Theater hosts S'mores and Scares, a program of staged spooky story readings, at 12:30 p.m., then screens The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 8 p.m. Down Main Street, Sag Harbor Cinema marks Halloween night with the 1931 Frankenstein at 6 p.m., accompanied by a live solo guitar score performed by Gary Lucas, and runs family matinees of Tim Burton's Frankenweenie on both Saturday and Sunday.

If you go

Spooky-Palooza runs Friday, October 30, 6 to 9 p.m. at The Church, 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor. Tickets are available through The Church's website, and the evening includes the DJ set, food tables, a cash bar and the costume contest. Bay Street Theater's Halloween programming on October 31 and Sag Harbor Cinema's screenings are ticketed separately through each organization.
