A lot of Long Island parents have sung along to Brady Rymer in the car. On Sunday, December 6, the Southold musician is being inducted into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame at its museum in Stony Brook Village, with a concert by Rymer and the bands he has played with across his career.
Three Grammy nominations for family music
Rymer began making music for children and families in 2000, so this year marks 25 years in the field. He has been nominated three times for the Grammy for Best Children's Music Album: for Here Comes Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could (2009), Just Say Hi! (2014) and Press Play (2017). He has also won Parents' Choice Gold and NAPPA Gold awards.
His song Jump Up appeared in a Let's Move version on the 2013 compilation Songs for a Healthier America, made for Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign. His work is also on two HBO family releases, A Family Is a Family Is a Family: A Rosie O'Donnell Celebration and Don't Divorce Me! Kids' Rules for Parents on Divorce.
Before the kids' records: From Good Homes
Before he was writing for children, Rymer was a founding member and the bass player of From Good Homes, the jam band that toured with the Dave Matthews Band, Hootie and the Blowfish, Bob Weir's Ratdog and Bob Dylan. He still plays with the band. He also played bass in the Laurie Berkner Band for more than ten years.
Shows for every kind of kid
Rymer is an advocate for neurodiversity acceptance and performs sensory-friendly shows for children with autism and other special needs, work tied to his 2011 album Love Me for Who I Am. Closer to the Hall of Fame itself, he has served on its education board for close to a decade, and at its 2025 music documentary festival he appeared on a panel and performed for the screening of the From Good Homes film Charlie Loves Our Band.
The night itself
The induction begins at 6 p.m. Afterward Rymer performs with the Little Band That Could, From Good Homes and members of the Laurie Berkner Band, which puts both halves of his career on one stage. The event is open to the public, and tickets include a reception with food and drinks. The sponsors are Catholic Health, PSEG, Anthony Nappa Wines, Greenport Harbor Brewing and Grace and Grit.
The Hall of Fame, a nonprofit that preserves and celebrates the Island's music history, opened its museum on Main Street in Stony Brook Village and runs inductions, exhibits, film screenings and a summer band camp there through the year.
