Twenty-nine artists who live and work in Suffolk County are hanging together on Jobs Lane this fall. Southampton Arts Center is showing East End Collected 9, the ninth edition of its survey of artists from across the county, open Fridays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. with dates listed through December 27.

A show built from the county's own artists

East End Collected was conceived by the artist Paton Miller, who curated the earlier editions. For this ninth round he shares the job with Christina Mossaides Strassfield, the arts center's executive director. The exhibition mixes painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and ceramics, and it puts artists at different points in their careers side by side.

The artists in the show are Deborah Acquino, Sophia Ader, Henry Baker, Dee Benish, Peter Beston, Walter Bobbie, Rossa Cole, Anahi DeCanio, AG Duggan, Dorothy Frankel, Pat Garrity, Lucas Greffenius Scheuer, Harrison Haft, Kara Hoblin, Edward Joseph, Richard Law, Elizabeth Levine, Christa Maiwald, Jon McAuliffe, John Melillo, ByeongDoo Moon, Grace Osborne, Oliver Peterson, Holly Rist, Robert Singer, Ben Sosne, Janice Stanton, Lucy Villeneuve and Katie Whipple.

Walk the show with the artists

Two artist tours give visitors the chance to hear about the work from the people who made it. Each runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and requires registration through the arts center.

  • Saturday, November 14: Dee Benish, Lucas Greffenius Scheuer, Kara Hoblin, Elizabeth Levine, Christa Maiwald, John Melillo, ByeongDoo Moon, Oliver Peterson and Katie Whipple.
  • Saturday, December 5: Henry Baker, Peter Beston, Walter Bobbie, Rossa Cole, Anahi DeCanio, AG Duggan, Harrison Haft, Ben Sosne and Janice Stanton.

More on the calendar this season

The building is busy around the exhibition. On Sunday, November 8, from 3 to 5 p.m., Honoring Veterans by Sharing Their Stories screens three short films from the USA Warrior Archive about local veterans from three generations: Susan E. Soto (Air Force, 1982 to 1992), John Melillo (Army, 1970 to 1972), and Arthur Muller (Navy, 1942 to 1945). A question-and-answer session follows with Soto, Melillo and Muller's daughter, Sandy Raynor, moderated by Matt Hindra and Nick Kraus of USA Warrior Stories. Admission is free with registration.

On Saturday, November 28, from 4 to 6 p.m., the center screens Lee Krasner: The Long View, a 30-minute documentary finished in 1978 by Barbara Rose and co-produced and edited by Lana Jokel, about the Abstract Expressionist painter who lived and worked in Springs. Jokel and the art historian Helen Harrison take questions afterward, followed by a reception.

For a hands-on evening, the artist Deborah Acquino, whose work is in the show, leads Holiday Paint and Sip ornament-painting classes on Thursdays, December 3 and 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $35, or $30 for members, with paints, brushes, two ornaments and drinks included.
