The singing-server dinner shows that ran at Side Street Dive in Patchogue are moving to Smithtown. Starting this week, Side Street Live performs at Bull Smith's Tavern, the restaurant's sister location at 155 West Main Street, and the first show on the new stage is a Grease-themed night on Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m.

Side Street Dive announced the move on its Instagram account at the end of October. Three shows are coming along: Stardust, Coronation Day and a new one called Summer Nights, built around the music of Grease.

What a singing-server show is

Side Street Live is dinner and a show in the same room. The people who take the order are also the performers, and they break into song throughout the meal, moving between the tables rather than staying on a stage. Each show follows a theme and a playlist.

For Summer Nights, Bull Smith's Tavern says the movie will play on the big screen while the singing staff performs every song live in the dining room. Guests are invited to get up and dance and to come dressed in a 1950s look: leather jackets, poodle skirts, sock-hop wear.

Tickets, food and the fine print

Tickets are sold through the Side Street Live site, sidestreetliveli.com, which forwards to a ticketing page for Bull Smith's Tavern. A few things the ticket page spells out:

  • The ticket covers the show. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for separately.
  • Tickets are not refundable. A reservation can be moved up to 24 hours before the seating; inside 24 hours, rescheduling costs $25.
  • Tickets bought on one order are seated together as one table. Groups that want to sit with another party are asked to email at least 24 hours ahead.
  • Questions about tickets go to [email protected].

The tavern says the shows have limited seating.

Parking near the train

Bull Smith's Tavern sits on West Main Street (Route 25) near the Smithtown station of the Long Island Rail Road. The ticket page notes parking on site and additional parking next door in the LIRR lot, which puts the show within a short walk for anyone riding the Port Jefferson Branch.

What happens to Side Street Dive

The Patchogue location is not closing. Side Street Dive says the space is now a private event venue for showers, weddings, birthdays and corporate outings, with bookings handled by email at [email protected].
