Padel&, a club brand started by two Swedish brothers who opened their first padel facility in Stockholm in 2018, is now open at 165 Eileen Way in Syosset. It is the brand's first Long Island location, and it runs seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Padel is a racquet sport that blends elements of tennis and squash. It is played mostly as doubles on an enclosed court about a third the size of a tennis court, where the surrounding glass walls stay in play, and the underhand serve and shorter court make the first session easier to pick up than most racquet sports.
Four courts, two saunas and a pro shop
The Syosset club has four doubles courts under 25-foot ceilings. Off the courts, the building includes newly built locker rooms for women and men, each with its own sauna and cold plunge, along with a pro shop that rents rackets and sells balls and gear. Parking sits directly beside the club.
Court time is booked through the Playtomic app, and a membership is not required to play. The club lists an Introduction to Padel program for people who have never held a padel racket, coaching for every level above that, and training programs for kids and juniors.
The people behind it
Brothers Rikard and Markus Hellqvist opened their first club in Stockholm in 2018 and grew that original chain to 80 clubs across seven countries. Padel& is the pair's New York brand, and the Syosset club follows the company's Brooklyn location in Greenpoint, making the Syosset courts its second stop in the state. The Greenpoint club runs six courts at 73 West Street on the Brooklyn waterfront.
The company says the ampersand in its name stands for everything around the sport itself: the music, the energy and the people, with each club meant to work as a home base for its members.
Memberships and what they cost
Membership is optional. An individual membership runs $175 a month with a $250 registration fee, a couple membership is $300 a month, and a family membership is $400 a month, with the couple and family tiers carrying a $450 registration fee, all plus sales tax.
Members get discounted bookings on courts, lessons and private events, priority booking 14 days out, access to a members-only Adidas league, two guest passes at sign-up and the option to pause the membership for up to three months. Non-members can simply book a court on Playtomic and walk in.
If you want to try it
Padel& Syosset is at 165 Eileen Way, off Robbins Lane on the south side of Syosset, open 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily. First-timers can start with the Introduction to Padel program or book an open court with three friends through Playtomic.
