Foodie Week is back across the Town of Oyster Bay. The town's week-long dining event runs through Sunday, October 25, with sixteen restaurants so far offering special dishes alongside their regular menus, and the town says the list is still growing.
Town officials announced the return of the event on October 19 at Hunter the Restaurant in East Norwich, where Supervisor Joseph Saladino was joined by Councilwoman Vicki Walsh, Town Clerk Rich LaMarca and chef Hunter Wells.
Not a prix fixe week
Foodie Week takes a different shape from the familiar restaurant week formula. Instead of a discounted multi-course deal, participating kitchens put out individual signature dishes created for the week, served alongside the regular menu, with an emphasis the organizers describe as farm-to-table, dock-to-dish and grape-to-glass. A Long Island food critic panel curates the participating restaurants, evaluating each against the same criteria.
Participation is free for any dining establishment located in the Town of Oyster Bay, and the town frames the week as a push for its downtowns: a reason for residents to return to a familiar spot or try a new one while the kitchens are showing off.
Who is cooking
The current roster spans the town from the South Shore villages to the North Shore waterfront. Woodbury has the densest cluster, with Butera's, Mihana Japanese Bistro, Ruta Oaxaca, Sage Bistro and Sushi Vogue all participating along the Jericho Turnpike corridor. Farmingdale's Main Street sends CaraCara Mexican Grill, Casa Stellina and Harleys American Grille, with Palmer's American Grille nearby on Hempstead Turnpike.
The rest of the list: Bacaro Italian Tavern in Massapequa Park, George White in Syosset, Hunter the Restaurant in East Norwich, Mill Creek Tavern on the water in Bayville, Paddy's Loft and Smuggler Jack's in Massapequa, and The Foundry in Hicksville.
How to take part
There is nothing to book through the town: diners simply go. The full restaurant list, with addresses, phone numbers and each kitchen's Foodie Week specials, is posted at FoodieWeek.com, where restaurants can also still sign up. The week runs through Sunday, October 25.
