Say the words senior fair and some people envision a small room with in-home care and assisted livings. What fills the Huntington Hilton in Melville on Sunday, September 27 is closer to a trade show with a floor show attached: over eighty exhibitors, more than twenty classes, live acoustic music running all day, free hearing screenings, a singles lounge, and a ticket that costs less than a sandwich. The Over 50 Fair turns seventeen this year, and very little about it resembles the thing its name suggests.

What twenty free classes actually look like
The classes are the part regulars plan their day around, and the schedule is stranger and better than a wellness track. Samuel Kaplan, a top-50 rated expert with the North American Scrabble Players Association, teaches Scrabble strategy, then sets up at his own booth and takes on anyone who fancies their chances. Dr. Michael Posner of Huntington Chiropractic Wellness runs a session on staying capable rather than merely upright. The Harbormen Chorus teaches a singing class aimed squarely at everyone who decided in third grade that they could not sing. Maureen Tara Nelson of MTN Matchmaking teaches a class on dating, love and sex after 50 that comes back every year because it fills every year.
None of them cost extra, and that is the structural choice the whole event rests on. Put everything behind one cheap ticket and people wander into rooms they would never have paid separately to enter.
The free consultations are the sleeper value
Several kinds of professional spend the day on the floor answering questions at no charge. ClearSound Hearing Centers runs hearing screenings on site, which is the sort of thing people put off for a decade and then finish in fifteen minutes because it happens to be twenty feet away. Omni Financial Research takes financial questions. Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone takes legal ones. True Mind Wellness offers therapeutic consultations, and Ethical Healing Practices gives energy healings.
If you have been carrying a question around for a year because you did not want to start a billable clock just to ask it, that is the reason to make the drive. None of it commits you to anything.
Music, a singles lounge and a row of sashes
An acoustic showcase presented by The Booking Ace plays through the day. This year brings Mor Koren Schwartz, a newcomer who moves between four languages inside a single set, alongside the returning Gotcha Covered Duo of David Lamm and Danielle Gatto, working soft and classic rock from the sixties forward.
MTN Matchmaking hosts a singles lounge, a more considered piece of design than it sounds: somewhere to sit down mid-afternoon and talk to a stranger without the encounter having to mean anything yet. Several Ms. New York Senior America titleholders will be on the floor as well, among them Patti Engler-Kmiotek, who recently took the 2026 title, Joan Caliendo from 2024, Mae Caime from 2023 and CJ Marie from 2015.
The raffle feeds Angela's House
This year's charity is Angela's House, the Long Island nonprofit that helps families caring for children who are medically fragile, chronically ill or facing a life-threatening illness. Bring non-perishable food, a new toy or a donation and you earn tickets toward the prize table. It is a clean trade: do something quietly useful on the way in and still walk out with a chance at something.
Who runs it, and why it keeps winning
Barbara Kaplan of East Hills founded the fair and produces it through Specialty Connections, the same outfit behind the All Kids Fair each spring. The motto of the Over 50 Fair is overflowing with opportunities for age 50+. In practice that means a floor where health and wellness sit beside travel, financial planning beside continuing education, and home services beside small local nonprofits that have never had a marketing budget.
It works. The fair has been voted Best of Nassau County in the Best Annual Event or Festival category for ten years running, which is a striking record for an event that is actually held in Suffolk, and a fair measure of how far across the Island its audience travels. AARP Long Island, Meltzer Lippe, the Family Service League Ombudsman Program, East Neck and Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers, Pinnie Health, FleckTech Solutions and the Friends of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Suffolk are among this year's sponsors.
