Parents of toddlers and preschoolers in the Middle Country area have a new place to spend a cold afternoon. Nana's Wonderland, an indoor playground, cafe and party space for children under 8, is now open at 1759-11 Middle Country Road in Centereach.

How it works

Play runs in 90-minute timed sessions, and the company asks families to book online ahead of time. The current session start times are 9:30 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 12:50 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. Weekday hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Friday through Sunday hours follow a weekly schedule posted on the location's page.

  • Session: $20 per child, with one adult free
  • Each additional adult: $10
  • Grip socks: $3
  • Babies under 10 months: free with a paying sibling

Monthly and annual memberships, multi-visit play passes and gift cards are sold through the site as well.

Who it is for

The space is designed for children younger than 8, so it is built for the toddler and preschool set rather than for older kids. Nana's Wonderland describes itself as a cafe and a community hub as much as a playground: caregivers can sit with a coffee while children play, and the company runs classes and events at its locations. The Centereach calendar has no classes listed yet.

A business started by a parent

The company's own account of how it began is short. Its founder, an early childhood educator, was looking for a clean, calm place to spend time with her young daughter, whose nickname is Nana, and decided to build one. The first Nana's Wonderland opened in Little Neck, Queens, and the company's site now lists locations in Massapequa Park, East Northport and Long Island City, with Kew Gardens marked as coming soon. Centereach is its first location in Brookhaven Town.

Parties

Birthday parties are booked through the Centereach page, which also carries the waiver every family signs before a first visit. Signing it at home saves time at the door.
