The Melville Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual holiday party on Monday, December 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at One10, 569 Broadhollow Road in Melville. It is free for Chamber members and $35 for guests, and a seat has to be reserved in advance.

What makes it worth a paragraph beyond the calendar listing is what the Chamber has promised will not happen. No speeches, no slides, no seating plan, and nobody in the room there to sell you anything.

Two hours, and you are home by eight

The Chamber's own description of the evening is the most interesting thing about it, because of what it leaves out. A year of handshakes, breakfast meetings and "we should grab coffee sometime" ends the way it ought to, it says: one room, one evening in December, and nothing on the agenda. Come straight from work. Put faces to the people you have spent the year emailing, and meet the ones you never got to.

Then three lines that read as a deliberate list of things that will not happen. No speeches, no slides, no seating plan. Nobody in the room is there to sell you anything. Two hours, and you are home by eight.

Anybody who has sat through a networking breakfast at a round table of eight strangers, waiting for a sponsor to finish a deck before being allowed to talk to anyone, will recognize what is being ruled out. The absence of a program is the program.

What it costs, and how the money works

Members attend free. Guests pay $35 a seat, taken by card during registration rather than at the door, and the seat is held once the payment goes through. There is no paying on the night.

Registration asks for the ordinary things, first and last name, email, phone and company, plus whether you are a member or a guest. Everything else is optional.

For a non-member weighing $35 against joining, membership starts at $250 a year and carries the rest of the calendar with it, including an events program that runs all year and a listing in a directory of more than 400 Long Island businesses.

Where it sits in the Chamber's year

December is the quiet end of a calendar that is busy for most of the year. The Chamber's flagship is the Business Expo on October 27 at the Hilton Melville, a free, public, hundred-exhibitor floor with twelve restaurants serving on Restaurant Row, and every exhibitor table for 2026 has already sold out.

Between now and the party the calendar carries a Business Resource Roundtable on September 24 at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library from 8:30 to 10 a.m., a Business After Hours at Opus Steakhouse on September 29 from 5:30 to 7:30, and a W.O.M.E.N. meeting on October 13. All of them are free.

The holiday party is the one that closes the year, and it is the only one on the list whose entire pitch is that nothing is scheduled to happen.
