More than 100 artists who belong to the Long Island Museum's LIMarts membership will hang their work together in Stony Brook starting the day after Thanksgiving. American Palette: LIMarts Members' Exhibition opens Friday, Nov. 27, and runs through Dec. 20, and many of the pieces will be for sale.
What American Palette is
The show is part of the museum's program for the nation's 250th anniversary. Its subject is how artists see America: personal memories, the places around them, historical subjects and stories meant for the next generation. LIMarts is the museum's membership level for artists, so the walls will carry work by people who live and paint here.
It overlaps with Enduring Heart: Native American Long Island, which is also on view through Dec. 20, so a single visit before the holidays covers both.
The rest of November on the campus
- Wednesday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: a Mornings@LIM guided tour of Enduring Heart.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, 6:30 to 10 p.m.: the Annual Winter Gala, the museum's largest fundraiser of the year, with dinner, dancing, a silent auction and live music by Tom Manuel and The Jazz Loft All Stars. This year it honors members of the Stony Brook Fire Department for their service to the community, along with gala honoree Kevin Lenane. Proceeds support the museum's exhibitions and education programs.
- Sunday, Nov. 8, 5 to 7 p.m.: the Sunday Street Concert Series turns to the songs of Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits.
- Friday, Nov. 13, 2 to 3:30 p.m.: Stitch & Chit-Chat, a free afternoon gathering, followed at 6 p.m. by Picture Perfect, a felt portrait workshop.
A note for the week of Nov. 5
From Thursday, Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8, the Visitors Center and gift shop are closed. During those days, admission is sold inside the Carriage Museum on the east side of the campus, with entry from the parking lot on Blydenburgh Lane.
