The hibachi restaurant near the west end of Patchogue's downtown is planning something bigger than the restaurant it runs today. A new company called Hoshi Steak House Inc has surfaced at 35 W Main Street, and the space it describes is not a single storefront: it covers suites 35, 37 and 41.

The address belongs to Hoshi Sushi & Hibachi, the teppanyaki and sushi room that has anchored its stretch of West Main Street since 2024. Nothing about the move is routine, and that is what makes it worth reading closely.

What we know so far

The restaurant that cooks at the address today is run by a company called JL & OU Inc, doing business as Hoshi Hibachi & Sushi, and it has held the room since 2024. The new venture is not a continuation of that arrangement. State records show two things changed at once. The company name went from a hibachi and sushi restaurant to Hoshi Steak House Inc. And the footprint grew from one address to three suite numbers running down the building.

A new corporate name at an operating restaurant's address usually marks a reorganization, a sale, or a new concept taking shape behind the counter. A wider footprint means the floor plan itself is growing. This move changes both at the same time. Nothing changes at the restaurant tomorrow, but something is clearly planned at 35 W Main Street, and whoever planned it wants room for more than the current dining room holds.

What it does not say

There is no opening date, no menu and no floor plan, and the restaurant has not announced anything. Its own website still reads sushi and hibachi. Whether the flat top tables stay, whether the sushi bar survives, whether the steak house name describes a new room beside the old one or a replacement for it, none of it has an answer yet.

It also is not clear who is behind the new company. The Hoshi name appears on more than one Long Island restaurant: it sits on a restaurant in a Stony Brook shopping center, and as of this month it is on a new sushi counter in Oyster Bay, the one taking over the old Stellina bakery space on Audrey Avenue. Each of those belongs to a different corporate entity, and nothing public says whether any of them share owners. The name may be a family of restaurants or a coincidence of translation, and the question stays open for now.

The block it lands on

West Main Street is the quieter half of Patchogue's restaurant row, the stretch that runs west from the Four Corners, and it has had a busy year. Daisy's Nashville Lounge draws its country crowds a few doors east. Earlier this month the old Garden Cafe space came back to life as Jardin Kitchen & Cocktails with a bar of its own. Downtown Patchogue keeps adding rooms rather than losing them, and a steak house would add a different kind of room to a strip built mostly on bars, pizza and small kitchens.

There is also a simple physical tell in the suite numbers. A restaurant that intends to stay its current size does not describe its home as three suites. Whatever Hoshi Steak House Inc turns out to be, the people behind it are planning a bigger footprint than the hibachi room occupies today.

What to watch

The clearest signal will be the row of windows at 35 through 41 W Main Street, because construction shows up on Main Street long before it shows up anywhere else. If the name taking shape behind the scenes ends up being the name on the door, Patchogue's hibachi corner comes out of this bigger than it went in.
