HomeGoods opens a new store in Shirley on Thursday, October 22, at the South Port Shopping Center at 999 Montauk Highway. The off-price home decor chain has set grand opening hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for day one.

The store fills the space at the center that previously held a Michaels craft store.

What the store carries

HomeGoods, part of the TJX family of stores alongside T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, sells furniture, rugs, lighting, bedding, kitchenware and seasonal decor at prices below department store tags. The chain's model turns on a rotating stock: buyers purchase in small lots, so the shelves change week to week rather than holding a fixed catalog.

The timing lands ahead of the holiday season, the stretch of the year when the chain's seasonal aisles turn over fastest.

One of three openings that day

Shirley is one of three HomeGoods stores opening nationwide on October 22, alongside new locations in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, part of a fall slate of openings the company has posted across ten states through November. The Shirley store is the only New York location on the list.

The shopping center around it

The South Port Shopping Center sits on Montauk Highway in Shirley, one of the main retail stretches serving Shirley and the Mastics. The HomeGoods takes over the center's former Michaels space, putting a national anchor back into that storefront.
