Shirley has a HomeGoods. The home decor retailer's new store at 999 Montauk Highway in the South Port Shopping Center is listed as now open on the company's grand openings page, with hours of 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. seven days a week.

The opening puts the chain's off-price mix of furniture, kitchenware, bedding, rugs and seasonal decor on the Montauk Highway retail strip that serves Shirley, Mastic and Moriches, an area whose residents previously drove to Patchogue or Riverhead for the nearest store.

Filling a South Shore gap

According to the company's own store directory, the closest HomeGoods locations to the new Shirley store are at Gateway Plaza in Patchogue, the Shops at Riverhead on Old Country Road, and the Nesconset Shopping Center in Port Jefferson Station. The Shirley address sits between the Patchogue and Riverhead stores along the South Shore, an area that had no HomeGoods of its own until now.

HomeGoods is part of The TJX Companies, the off-price group behind T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra and Homesense, and the stores share the group's model: buying overruns and closeouts from brands and turning the inventory over quickly, so the mix on the shelves changes from week to week.

An early start on the holiday season

The new store arrives just ahead of the chain's holiday push. HomeGoods' website notes that participating stores will open one hour early on Saturday, November 1 for what it calls Deck the Everything Day, the start of its holiday decorating season. Shoppers planning around it should confirm with the Shirley store directly, since the early opening applies to participating locations.
