Hermès is back on Northern Boulevard. The Paris house's renovated store at Americana Manhasset opens to the public on Saturday, October 31, after an unveiling on October 29, and Hermès says the new interior was designed around Long Island itself: the Gold Coast estates of the 1930s and the gardens and shoreline of Manhasset Bay.

The store is at 1988 Northern Boulevard, inside the Americana Manhasset shopping center, and keeps hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.

A Long Island store, designed as one

Hermès International announced the opening on October 29 and described the reconfigured space as a Gold Coast store. The street-facing facade is built from pale brick shaped into ribbed arches, with curves meant to echo the contours and colors of the Nassau County shoreline. Large windows bring daylight into a double-height space that sits on a single level.

The design is by RDAI, the Paris architecture agency that has shaped Hermès stores around the world, and the house says it used locally sourced materials and furniture designed for the space.

What is where

Shoppers walk in over the house's Faubourg mosaic floor, under Grecques lighting, into the silk, fashion jewelry, and perfume and beauty areas. To the right is a smaller room for jewelry and watches finished in botanical greens. To the left is the men's area, with walnut cabinetry and arched details.

The store wraps around a central rotunda with a large skylight. That circular room, lined in ivory limestone, holds the home collection. Leather goods and the equestrian line sit to one side behind cherrywood marquetry walls laid in a chevron pattern; women's ready-to-wear and shoes sit on the other in a palette of greens. Carpets in the store were made with patterns drawn from the coves of the coastline.

All sixteen of the house's métiers, its categories from silk and leather to home and beauty, are represented under one roof.

Art on the walls

Hermès hung a selection of works from the Émile Hermès Collection and the Hermès Collection of Contemporary Photographs in the store, picked to echo the Gold Coast. They include Henri Cartier-Bresson's photograph Bal de la Reine Charlotte and a series of paintings by British artist Romy Elliott.

At Americana

Americana Manhasset, the collection of about 60 shops on Northern Boulevard, lists the store in its directory with an opening date of Saturday, October 31, and Hermès describes the Manhasset location as a renovated store.
