Huntington is getting a new place to take a bad back or a sore knee. Grewal Orthopedic & Spine Care, a physician-owned practice that began with one office in 2018, will open its fifth location at 7 Lawrence Hill Road in Huntington in January 2027, with orthopedic and spine consultations and a dedicated physical therapy suite under one roof.
What the Huntington office will offer
The practice announced the opening on November 2. The new office is set up so that a patient can be evaluated, get a treatment plan and do rehabilitation in the same building, rather than being sent elsewhere for therapy. It will see people with back and neck pain, joint pain, mobility problems and orthopedic injuries, as well as patients recovering after an orthopedic or spine procedure.
Physical therapy is at the center of the plan. The practice runs its own rehabilitation program, GO Rehab. Scheduling details and office hours will be posted closer to the January opening.
A nonsurgical-first approach
The practice was founded by Dr. Kanwarpaul Grewal, DO, a spine surgeon who completed a Complex Spine and Deformity Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, after his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwell's Plainview Hospital. He teaches on the faculty at Plainview Hospital and at the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, and in 2020 he received Northwell's Outstanding Teacher Award and Plainview Hospital's Attending of the Year recognition.
The practice describes its approach as conservative care first: physical therapy, activity changes and interventional pain procedures before any operation, with surgery considered when those measures have not helped or when imaging and the exam point to a structural problem. When surgery is called for, its surgeons perform minimally invasive spine procedures, cervical fusion, cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacement and complex spinal reconstruction.
How it fits with the other four offices
Huntington joins offices in East Meadow, Westbury, Lindenhurst and Elmhurst, Queens. Each does something a little different. East Meadow has an orthopedic urgent care center with X-ray on site, for injuries that cannot wait for an appointment. Westbury houses an interventional pain management suite with image-guided procedures. Lindenhurst serves patients in Suffolk County. General orthopedic care across the practice is led in part by Dr. Nabil Farakh, DO, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon.
The practice accepts major insurance plans, New York Workers' Compensation and no-fault auto coverage, subject to verification, and offers translation help in Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.
