Farmingdale High School's boys soccer team is the Long Island Class AAA champion. The Dalers beat Lindenhurst 2-1 on Wednesday, November 4, in the Long Island Class AAA championship, played on Lindenhurst's field, to finish a postseason run that had already brought home the Nassau County title.
How the title came together
Class AAA is the largest enrollment division in New York high school soccer, which means the Long Island final pairs the champion of the biggest schools in Nassau with the champion of the biggest schools in Suffolk. Farmingdale came out of Nassau's Section VIII, and Lindenhurst came out of Suffolk's Section XI.
Farmingdale reached the final by winning the Nassau Class AAA championship against Oceanside in a game settled on penalty kicks. It then went east to Lindenhurst and won the Long Island game by a goal.
The championship was sanctioned by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association and broadcast live on the NFHS Network, where the full game remains available on demand.
A fall of titles in Farmingdale
The win caps a fall of titles at Farmingdale High School. The girls swimming and diving team won its first division title since 2003 earlier this season, and the boys soccer team now adds a Long Island championship, the top prize available to a Nassau or Suffolk team before the state tournament.
How to follow the team
The final can be watched in full on the NFHS Network, and match details, scores and the team's season record are posted on MaxPreps. Farmingdale Public Schools posts athletic news and schedules on the district's website.
