Burgerology never really said goodbye to Patchogue. It just stopped showing up for a while. Now state records show a new company called Burgerology Patch Inc at 76 West Main Street, in the heart of the village's restaurant row, and the chain's own menu page has quietly started listing Patchogue among its Long Island locations again.

For a village that watched the burger lab pack up its Railroad Avenue dining room in 2024, that adds up to one of downtown's most familiar names working its way back, and this time it wants a Main Street address.

The first Patchogue chapter

Burgerology arrived in Patchogue in the spring of 2020, which is to say at the worst possible moment to open a dining room anywhere in America. It made it work anyway, serving its stacked burgers and boozy shakes from 11 Railroad Avenue, a few steps off the village's Main Street strip. The location lasted four years before the chain let it go in 2024, and the village noticed the hole it left.

The space did not sit dark for long. Side Street Dive moved in this past spring with pizza, cocktails and singing servers, and that corner of Railroad Avenue has been loud ever since. Whatever Burgerology planned next, its old home was spoken for.

Why 76 West Main matters

The address in the new records is not a random storefront. Number 76 sits on West Main Street itself, along the stretch of downtown where Patchogue does its eating and drinking, with Bobbique and the rest of the West Main crowd for neighbors. The storefront has its own burger history too: it was home to Local Burger Co, and Spycoast Kitchen and Cocktails has run the room since March 2024.

Spycoast has been pouring at that address since then, and neither business has said publicly what the new arrangement means for it. What the records make clear is the shape of the plan: a full restaurant, under the Burgerology name, back in downtown Patchogue, a short walk from the room it left.

What Burgerology brings back

The chain built its reputation on treating the burger like a science project that got out of hand, in the best way. The current menu runs from a Mensa Burger with apple cider braised bacon to a Genius Burger buried under short rib and cabernet gravy, alongside loaded poutines, five cheese baked mac and a build-your-own program that lets you stack a bacon-infused USDA Prime patty with bourbon bacon jam on a pretzel bun.

It is not a small operation. Burgerology runs dining rooms in Rockville Centre, Huntington, Farmingdale and Stony Brook, each with a full bar, a happy hour and a brunch crowd. Patchogue was the one that got away, and plenty of villages would have stayed gotten away: downtown Patchogue has added a steady run of new kitchens over the past year, from Hoshi's growing footprint on West Main to the hotel going up on West Avenue.

That is exactly what makes the return notable. Chains do not usually circle back to a downtown they left. Burgerology looked at a Main Street that kept getting busier after it departed and decided it wanted back in.

What happens next

There is no opening date yet, and the usual sequence takes a while: build-out, staffing, the slow work of turning one restaurant into another. The honest answer on timing is months, not weeks.

But Patchogue has seen this movie before and knows how it ends. The village's dining strip has a way of absorbing every new arrival and asking for more, and a burger chain with a built-in Long Island following is about as safe a bet as Main Street real estate gets. Two years after the lights went out on Railroad Avenue, Burgerology is betting that Patchogue still has an appetite for it. The village's record suggests it does.
