Blue Point Brewing Co. is bringing its Cask Ales Festival back to Patchogue for a 22nd year. The festival runs Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Blue Point Brewpub, 225 West Main Street, with samples from more than 100 casks of small-batch and one-off beers from breweries around the country.

What a cask ale is

Cask ales are conditioned in the cask they are poured from rather than carbonated in a keg, so each cask is a small batch that is served once and gone. That is why the festival is built around one-of-a-kind brews rather than a fixed tap list.

What the ticket includes

General admission is $40 and covers entry, a 5-ounce Cask Fest tasting glass and samples from the more than 100 casks. Local food trucks will be on site, and the afternoon's music comes from Blink 180 and The 90s Band.

When the outdoor festival ends at 6 p.m., the party moves into the brewery's tasting room until 10 p.m., where The 90s Band keeps playing.

The festival is open only to guests 21 and older and runs rain or shine.

The brewery behind it

Blue Point was founded in Patchogue in 1998 and describes itself as Long Island's original craft brewery. Its flagship, Toasted Lager, has won awards including a gold medal at the World Beer Cup, according to the brewery. Blue Point is now part of Tilray Brands, and its beers are distributed along the East Coast.

Planning the day

The festival falls on the first Saturday of Long Island Restaurant Week, which runs Nov. 1 through Nov. 8, so a dinner reservation in downtown Patchogue afterward is an option.
