For four days every September, Bellmore stops being a place you drive through on the way to somewhere else. Bedford Avenue, Pettit Avenue, Broadway and the Long Island Rail Road parking lots fill with crafters, food vendors, bands and a full carnival, and one of the larger street festivals in Nassau County takes over the whole village.

The 39th Annual Bellmore Family Street Festival runs Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The schedule, and why it matters

The most common mistake people make with this one is treating it as a single event. It is two overlapping events with different hours, and showing up at the wrong time gets you half of it.

The carnival

  • Thursday, September 17: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday, September 18: 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 19: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 20: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The street festival

  • Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

So Thursday and Friday nights are rides and live music only. The crafters, vendors and the full street-fair sprawl arrive Saturday morning and are gone by six each evening, while the carnival keeps running well past dark. Saturday is the day that has everything at once, which is also why Saturday is the day everyone else goes.

Where it happens

The festival spreads across Bellmore Village along Bedford and Pettit Avenues, Broadway, and the Long Island Rail Road parking lots. The rides are concentrated around the LIRR lot on Pettit Avenue.

The railroad is genuinely the best way in. The festival is built around the Bellmore LIRR station, the parking lots that would normally absorb the cars are full of carnival rides, and the surrounding streets are closed. Taking the train to an event held in a train station parking lot is one of the few times on Long Island where the obvious answer is also the correct one.

The other Bellmore tradition, every Friday

If September feels far off, the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores runs something else worth knowing about, and it happens weekly.

The Bellmore Friday Night Car Show, presented with the Town of Hempstead, takes over the Bellmore LIRR parking lot on Broadway, between Bellmore Avenue and Bedford Avenue, every Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., March through the end of October, weather permitting.

It is free to walk through. Bringing a car costs $5. It has been running for years and draws a large, genuinely varied field, and it is one of the more reliably pleasant free evenings on the South Shore.
