Bang Bang Burritos, the fast-casual burrito shop that opened its first counter on Union Boulevard in West Islip in 2019, has signed leases for three new restaurants at once. Wantagh comes first, with an opening targeted for October. Oceanside follows before the end of the year, and Melville is slated for next spring. When all three doors are open, the homegrown chain will stand at six Long Island locations, double what it runs today.

For a brand that spent its first years growing one careful step at a time, three leases in one announcement is a different gear. It is also a bet placed entirely on home ground: every location, open or planned, sits in Nassau or Suffolk.

Where the new ones land

The Wantagh restaurant takes a 960-square-foot space at 1906 Wantagh Avenue, and it is the one to watch if you live nearby, because it is expected to open by October. That puts fresh burritos on Wantagh Avenue before the leaves are done turning.

Oceanside gets a 1,500-square-foot end-cap at 2904 Long Beach Road, a corner spot that most recently held a smoothie cafe. That one is expected to open in the final quarter of the year, which in practice means sometime between the World Series and New Year's Eve.

Melville lands the largest of the three, a 1,600-square-foot space at 718 Walt Whitman Road, slated for next spring. Of the three, it is the clearest play for the weekday crowd: the address sits on the Route 110 corridor, one of the densest concentrations of offices on Long Island, and a quick, inexpensive lunch within reach of that many desks tends to find its audience fast.

RIPCO Real Estate represented the chain in all three deals, and the brokerage says it is actively hunting for more sites beyond these. In other words, six may not be the resting number.

From one counter in West Islip

Bang Bang incorporated in New York in June 2019, according to state corporate records, and opened that year at 464 Union Boulevard in West Islip. A second shop followed at 631 East Main Street in Bay Shore, and a third at 568 Plandome Road in Manhasset carried the brand across the county line into Nassau.

The menu is built around signature burritos with names that do not take themselves too seriously: The Classic, the Chicken Buffarito, the Big Papa, the Fajita Burrito and a rotating supporting cast, alongside tacos, bowls, quesadillas and nachos. Everything sits at the inexpensive end of the fast-casual scale, which is a large part of why the formula travels well from town to town.

The expansion also says something quietly encouraging about Long Island's restaurant economy. National chains lease space here every month. A chain that started as a single storefront in West Islip and is now signing three leases at once is a rarer thing, and it is growing in exactly the kind of small, in-line retail spaces that need tenants most.

What to expect, and when

The usual caveat applies to every date in this story: restaurant build-outs slip, permits take their time, and a target is a target. But leases are signed commitments, not trial balloons, and a chain publicizing three addresses at once has every incentive to get the doors open while the announcement is still warm.

If you are in Wantagh, the wait is measured in weeks, not seasons. Oceanside residents should see activity at the Long Beach Road corner through the fall, with the door opening by winter. Melville is the long pole, with spring the stated target, though anyone who works along the 110 corridor may want to note the address now.

Look at the map the chain is drawing and the plan is legible: West Islip and Bay Shore covered the South Shore of Suffolk, Manhasset reached the North Shore of Nassau, and the new trio fills in Nassau's South Shore and the office heart of western Suffolk. For a reader keeping score at home, that is a homegrown burrito operation methodically ringing the Island, one storefront at a time.
