ArtAbility, the traveling exhibition of work by artists with physical and cognitive disabilities, is on view at the Viscardi Center's Museum of Disability History in Albertson through Thursday, Nov. 12. It is the fifth stop of the show's 2026 tour, which finishes at its home base, the Spirit of Huntington Art Center, on Nov. 20 and 21.
What ArtAbility is
The exhibition is organized by the Spirit of Huntington Art Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Huntington Station that runs art classes for students of all ages and abilities. ArtAbility shows the work of artists who face physical and cognitive challenges, and it credits the nonprofit organizations that support them alongside the artists. The center says the show has three goals: to show the community what artists of diverse abilities are making, to encourage visitors to try making art themselves, and to make the arts more inclusive.
The center's own classes are the root of it. Its program includes weekly art, clay, music and movement classes, many built around the lives of well-known artists and the obstacles they worked through, with students creating their own pieces in response.
