Grumman Film Studio Approved for Port Washington North
On April 7, Port Washington North’s Board of Trustees approved a film studio to be built on Channel Drive, just off of the well-trafficked Shore Road.
Grumman Studio at Port Washington North will be their second location after its Bethpage complex, where they had a hand in several famed properties, such as The Avengers.
This studio has been in the works for years, with owner Parviz Farahzad having purchased the property with the goal of turning it into something that can generate revenue for the village. During the hearing to approve the project, residents seemed positive about the idea, especially with the promise of expanding job opportunities for the town.
BLD Architecture out of Patchogue has been commissioned to build this project. Taking up nearly 14 acres and at a whopping 105,338 square feet, the structure will replace the previous Publisher’s Clearing House property. In their announcement message, the firm mentioned various film studio necessities from green rooms to hair and makeup salons will be built.
If all goes well, construction may take 14 months or longer with a possible 2022 completion date. Now that the board of trustees has allowed the project to commence, separate permissions need to be granted to begin demolition work.
Port Washington’s newest movie studio is poised to create jobs and bring a piece of the film industry right into local hands. There will be plenty more news following the studio’s development here on Port Washington North’s government website.
