Uniting Salons, Transforming Lives: United Salons of America & Hair We Share Turn Beauty into Hope
In a world where beauty and compassion often intersect, one organization is turning something as simple as a haircut into a powerful act of kindness. From April 6–12, 2025, Hair We Share invites salons across the country to participate in its heartwarming initiative, United Salons of America—a nationwide event that uses the collective power of the beauty industry to support individuals experiencing medical hair loss.
Here at Long Island Wave, we’ve always believed in spotlighting stories that matter—stories of people coming together to do good, lift each other up, and create real impact. And this is exactly what United Salons of America is all about.
A Beautiful Mission Born on Long Island
Headquartered right here on Long Island, Hair We Share has been quietly doing remarkable things for years. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization handcrafts high-quality, custom human hair wigs for children and adults affected by medical hair loss—completely free of charge. These aren’t just wigs; they’re confidence, self-esteem, and a piece of identity restored during a deeply vulnerable time.
Whether it’s due to chemotherapy, alopecia, or other medical challenges, hair loss can be emotionally devastating. Hair We Share helps individuals feel whole again, seen again, and beautiful again. But making these wigs requires more than donated hair—it takes funding, awareness, and a committed community. That’s where United Salons of America comes in.
United Salons of America: More Than a Fundraiser
From April 6 through April 12, salons across the country are being asked to do something powerful: give a little, change a lot. Participating salons can choose one or more days during the campaign week to donate a portion of sales from selected services or products to Hair We Share. In addition, salons are encouraged to:
Set up Facebook Fundraisers to inspire generosity in their networks
Display donation boxes at their front desks for clients to contribute directly
Host mini-events, braid bars, or donation days to engage clients and spread the word
The idea is simple, but the impact is massive. Each dollar raised brings Hair We Share closer to creating a new, life-changing wig. And every wig changes a life.

At Long Island Wave, we’ve had the honor of meeting recipients of these wigs—and the difference is nothing short of transformative. For a teenage girl who’s lost her hair to alopecia, that wig means walking into school with confidence. For a mother undergoing chemotherapy, it’s about seeing herself in the mirror and feeling strong enough to fight another day.
