Recognizing Remarkable Students
The Kilimitzoglou Awards, established by Dr. Kilimitzoglou, recognize dental students who have shown exceptional passion, ethical behavior, and innovative spirit in dentistry.
This year's award recipients are:
Stanley Faynblut received the Dimitrios Kilimitzoglou Pioneer in Dentistry Award. This award is presented to a fourth-year student who demonstrates exceptional passion, zeal, pride, and enthusiasm for dentistry, significantly surpassing standard academic expectations.
Jackie Kostenko and Arielle Adams received the Kilimitzoglou Endowed General Dentistry Award, recognizing graduating students who have shown excellence, strong ethical practices, and a dedicated commitment to enhancing general dentistry. Both awardees will enter General Practice Residency programs upon graduation.
Dr. Kilimitzoglou’s Inspiring Journey
Dr. Kilimitzoglou’s journey to becoming a respected figure in dentistry began at an early age when a memorable dental appointment sparked his interest. Fascinated by the confidence and precision of his dentist, he chose a career that perfectly merged his passions in art, science, technology, and psychology.
Outside his professional endeavors, Jimmy engages in diverse activities, including music, scuba diving, soccer, motorcycling, and martial arts (he holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do). Above all, he deeply values his role as a father to his twin boys.
Giving Back to His Alma Mater
In gratitude for the exceptional education he received at Stony Brook University, Dr. Kilimitzoglou personally donated $100,000 to create endowed scholarships and awards that support and encourage future dental professionals. His philanthropic efforts aim to inspire students to pursue excellence and ethical practice in dentistry, further strengthening the dental community on Long Island and beyond.
Dr. Kilimitzoglou’s generosity and mentorship have had a lasting impact. His former mentor, Dr. Mark Wolff, now Chair of the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at NYU College of Dentistry, fondly recalls Jimmy’s constant drive for excellence and innovation.
