e.s.i. Healthy Dentistry’s Innovative Dr. Kilimitzoglou 🦷

In need of dental care? Have dentophobia? Well fear no longer because Dr. Kilimitzoglou is here. With his high-tech dental care and passionate personality you cannot go wrong with taking a visit to Dr. Kilimitzoglou’s practice, e.s.i. Healthy Dentistry. We sat down with Dr. K himself to hear about how he has made it this far, and what he does now.

From the young age of 5 years old Dr. Kilimitzoglou knew he wanted to be a dentist after a visit to one. He said, “I was fascinated by this grown man with his big fat fingers going into my mouth and I wouldn’t feel anything.”

After seeing all the amazing technology the dentist had used, he realized that he could have fun at his job and get paid to do so. He was hooked and never looked back, and ended up graduating from dental school at Stony Brook University in 2002.

Soon after beginning his practice, Dr. K started combining technology and biology to provide exceptional care. He is a very dedicated dentist who genuinely cares about his patients. “I’m always excited to wake up in the morning and come to the office and meet new patients, take care of existing patients. A lot of times people ask me, ‘How many patients do you have?’ And I always say zero, I just have 4,000 extended family and friends that I love to take care of.”

In addition to caring for his patients he also provides them with amazing technology to give the best dental care possible.

Just some of the innovative technology his practice uses is an intraoral scanner. Basically, it is a digital scanner for the inside of a patient's mouth. In seconds it is able to take images inside the mouth, which allows Dr. K to be able to complete tooth restorations more thoroughly. It is a quick, easy, and comfortable alternative to old fashioned methods that cause patients discomfort.

With this technology, Dr. K is able to provide biomimetic dentistry. Biomimetic dentistry is dental care that mimics nature. It has all the same characteristics of normal, natural teeth, but these are custom made replacements for patients.

Dr. Kilimitzoglou also provides preventative treatments for his patients. His practice likes to find the source of a patient’s issues, and supports patients to help not only their oral health, but that of the rest of the body as well. Using a biological approach, Dr. K is able to reverse cavities instead of waiting for them to grow.

When asked about his favorite part of his dental work Dr. Kilimitzoglou had an interesting answer claiming dentophobia was his favorite part of the job. Having a fear of dentists is very common, but typically dentists do not like this. People can go years without seeing a dentist after one bad experience, and this can lead to a lot of oral health problems.

But Dr. Kilimitzoglou enjoys this. He likes to help patients figure out what they need, and take care of all those years of neglect in one appointment. He may have the patient undergo IV sedation, during which the patient’s dental issues will be taken care of while they sleep. Dr. K stated, “I am blessed to have the facility, to have the skills, and training to provide that level of care to the patients.”

In addition to his practice, Dr. Kilimitzoglou also conducts an annual outreach mission that he leads in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. About 20 years ago he went as a dental student and now he leads dental students in their mission to help create custom made dentures for those who have no teeth and are unable to get dental prosthesis.

“It was a life changing experience for me to be able to give back to a community that would never get a chance to get that level of care.” While they have not been able to go for the past two years due to COVID-19, he is hoping they will be able to go back in 2022.
