NICE Bus Launches Bike & Ride Program - Bicycle Racks on Select Routes đźš´
On July 12, 2021, NICE Bus (Nassau Inter-County Express) officially launched its “Bike & Ride” program, outfitting its 60-foot buses along strategically selected routes with front-end bicycle racks. The program comes as part of NICE Bus’ ongoing efforts to encourage environmentally-friendly transportation and enhance ridership experience.
“We are now able to offer bike riders the ability to connect to a NICE bus while storing their bike safely and securely to the front of the vehicle,” stated NICE CEO Jack Khzouz at a press conference.
“The addition of bike racks to the busiest NICE bus routes will provide convenience to cycling enthusiasts, weekend beachgoers, and those traveling via NICE who rely on a bicycle to complete their journey,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
Each bike rack holds two adult-sized (16” wheels or larger) bicycles; child bikes or motorized bikes are not allowed. There is no additional charge to use the racks. Riders must load and unload the bikes themselves; a how-to brochure will be provided.
“The addition of bike racks to NICE n88 Jones Beach service will also increase access to the recently completed Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway, a scenic 13.5-mile shared-use trail from Jones Beach State Park to Captree State Park,” said active transportation advocate Rosemary Mascali.
