Animal Shelter to be Built in Halesite/Huntington
On Tuesday, April 13, the Town of Huntington announced set plans to fund a new animal shelter on Creek Road in Halesite.
Plans for this shelter include providing ADA-accessible facilities including 50 double-stall kennels, a multi-purpose training room, outdoor dog run, medical room, canine bathing area, and much more to deliver the best behavioral rehabilitation, training, and adoption for animals in need.
The creation of this shelter will cost around $7 million. The New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund has granted $500,000 for this project and another $500,000 will be taken from the proceeds of bonds issued in 2014. The last $6 million will be bonded to finance the balance.
In addition to this new animal shelter, the town board also approved the creation of a permanent memorial to honor victims of COVID-19.
