Long Island Spring and Summer Boating Safety Courses are Open

America’s Boating Club released a statement in late March, updating members and future Personalized Water Craft (PWC) owners and operators of new boat safety measures that have been put in place due to the passing of Brianna’s Law.

The club announced that its spring and summer America’s Boating Course will allow legal certification for those who take part, and implores prospective boaters to attend.

Due to the passing of Brianna’s Law in August of 2019, motorized boat operators will be required to obtain a Safe Boating Certificate as approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). While April classes are closed, early registration for May and June classes has commenced.

Long Island residents have several possible places to sign up for these courses, which cater both to youth and adults. The Long Island Maritime Museum specifically hosts safety courses that fulfill Brianna’s Law requirements. These classes are held in two parts, and there are three different sessions to choose from: early May, late May, and June.

For those seeking out virtual classes, America’s Boating Club will be hosting live classes on June 10, 17, and 24. All three must be attended, and only those ages 12 years and older are eligible.

Brianna’s Law requirements must be fulfilled by January of 2025. It is highly recommended to seek out local, NASBLA approved courses near you at your earliest convenience. Visit the America’s Boating Club website here for registration.
