The global pandemic has caused plenty in the entertainment, music, and art industries to fall into hard times.
Venues remain closed, and consistent shows have become a thing of the past. While this is a harsh reality, the organization Long Island Cares and local venues intend to help those who have brought joy to so many with the new Music Box of Meals program.
Several notable Long Island businesses and theaters have joined the Music Box of Meals initiative. Among them, Northport’s John W. Engeman Theater, known for its highly praised Broadway productions, and the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts continue to contribute.
The initiative utilizes Long Island Cares’s extensive network and aims to provide food and other necessities for those who need them in these damaged industries. LI Cares has a particular interest in music and entertainment, as their founder was singer and activist Harry Chapin.
While occasional shows have been permitted, it is not nearly enough for all local artists, musicians, and the various members of staff that allow productions to happen. Those eligible may include stagehands, technicians, set designers, and other important facets of production and entertainment.
Although some might be hesitant to take advantage of the program, Long Island Cares emphasizes the importance of reaching out. Despite the program’s name, the program is not limited to food items. Other necessities like hygiene products and even pet food can be found in these pre-packaged boxes.
Partnered theaters and concert halls such as John W. Engeman Theater and plenty of others scattered throughout Long Island will have boxes ready for those who need them.
