The YMCA of Long Island has begun to steadily reopen as pandemic restrictions lessen and vaccination numbers increase. Having closed their doors in March 2020 following newly set guidelines, local Ys are eager to continue where they left off.

It has been a rough year for the YMCA as an organization. Throughout this pandemic, several crucial functions were cut altogether, but many Ys still maintained their most important features. Blood drives continued with their partners the American Red Cross, and thousands of meals were delivered to underprivileged families despite restrictions.

Long Island YMCAs have already begun spring registration. The spring session includes some of their most popular programs, namely, many youth-based activities that had to be canceled. Programs include sports and fitness classes aimed at getting kids moving again.

There are also a series of new programs meant to provide for those uncomfortable or unable to return to their local Ys. These include at-home fitness classes. In keeping with pandemic procedures, local YMCAs are also continuing their vital programs for older adults seeking to stay active and healthy.

The YMCA of Long Island runs their spring program from April 18 through June 26. To support your local Y and find out more about their mission and programs, click this link
