The not-for-profit Bay Street Theater, located in Sag Harbor, has announced it will be leaving its original home, founded in 1991, with the goal of breaking ground later this year on a new property.
This move to a new location, though only a few blocks away, is set to be a momentous one.
One crucial piece of land has already been purchased, with the theater hoping to acquire another piece at the northern entry of Sag Harbor Village. The project is poised to take advantage of the fairly new John Steinbeck Park, offering guests and passersby natural views along the town’s mainstreet.
Bay Street Theater has served Sag Harbor as a pillar of culture and education. Through the nurturing of local writers and performers, the theater has gained notoriety for its outstanding productions and commitment to the local community.
The theater has outgrown its original home, and will see expanded capabilities for its future productions. There are also plans to cater to their educational services with a dedicated learning center for children and adults.
The new facility will allow for year-round production and will bring a much needed update to the original theater. The hope is to keep the new main theater intimate, but with the modern fixings and technology to keep up with their quickly growing needs.
Bay Street Theater ultimately wants to provide a service to the community that has opened its arms to it for thirty years. With a state of the art architectural firm at the helm, things are set for a grand reveal of the new facility in a few years time.
