Hamptons Traffic Won’t Bring Shinnecock Nation’s New York Casino Plans to a Standstill This Time
Hamptons traffic during summer months has been a notable nightmare for as long as anyone can remember.

The impending construction of a 76,000-square-foot casino by the Shinnecock Nation on their Southampton property will surely contribute to the ongoing issue, but some are trying to look at the brighter side.
Chairman Bryan Polite of the Shinnecock Nation Council of Trustees recognizes the issue of Hamptons traffic, and understands that Shinnecock Casino Hamptons very well may make it worse. However, Polite has made it clear that the Shinnecock Nation has also considered the positive impact the casino will have not only on his people, but the entire Hamptons area.
Both construction and casino operations will provide the Shinnecock Nation and people of surrounding areas with jobs, and its revenue go toward the tribal government budget and social services. This will be monumental for the estimated 60 percent of tribal members who live below the poverty line.
The Shinnecock Nation is moving forward with a plan to begin construction this summer with the help of Tri-State Partners, and some assistance from the Seminole tribe, which has provided technological and financial resources toward the project. Polite estimates that construction will span between 18 and 24 months.
The Class II casino will be decked out with around 1,000 video lottery terminals, 30 game tables, restaurant space and a performance venue. Chairman Polite also noted possible plans for a hotel addition in the future during a possible Phase Two of construction. For now, the Shinnecock Nation is settling on the features listed above.
“We understand there is a traffic problem. The only time [Southampton leaders] consider stopping something is because of traffic problems. But over the last 20 years, traffic has increased in Southampton because of their economic ventures. People complain, but they continue to do economic projects that benefit the local municipality.”

The Shinnecock Nation has worked diligently for the last 20 years to get to the point they are at now with Shinnecock Casino Hamptons. After a perilous battle that included spending years getting federal recognition as a tribe, the Shinnecock Nation received approval from the National Indian Gaming Commission last summer.
Despite disapproval from politicians, the development of Shinnecock Casino Hamptons will soon be underway on their sovereign land off of Montauk Highway in Southampton.
